When Dr Andrew Wang opened his first practice, AV Dental in Perth’s fast growing northern suburbs, he turned to Medifit for the design and fitout. AV Dental has proven to be a successful practice and 5 and a half years down the track, Andrew has teamed up with a colleague to open his second practice.

After a positive experience with his first practice, he returned to Medifit for their design and construction expertise. Located in Butler, just off the coast north of Perth, Admire Dental is a partnership between Drs Andrew Wang and Hau Yan Chan. Butler Central shopping centre is situated next door to busy Butler train station and attracts significant foot traffic from commuters on their way to and from the city. When a tenancy became available opposite anchor tenant Woolworths, the young dentists seized the opportunity and contacted Medifit to begin the design process.

Andrew and Hau had a clear vision for the new practice. Situated in a high pedestrian traffic setting within a shopping centre, every person who passes by the practice is a potential patient therefore it was vital that the shopfront presented well. They wanted the interior of the practice to have a unique, artistic style that reflected their own contemporary aesthetic. The landlord also had a specific design aesthetic as part of the Fitout Guide for the shopping centre. A very high level of finish was required and this is evident in the finished product.

Andrew says:

“The design intent of the practice was to create a luxurious boutique hotel appearance with a separate identity to the first practice I built with Medifit. Clever design elements like the angled corridors, high ceiling, and mirrored walkway achieved this luxurious feel in the limited space available in the premises. Medifit further liaised with Woolworths to meet their strict design criteria and smoothed out the process by coordinating with shopping centre management and trades. The summation of their efforts resulted in a unique practice that effortlessly conveys fresh casual elegance.“

The design response from Medifit was a beautiful, contemporary practice that presents a distinct and stylish visual signature inside and out. Inside the practice, stone textures with dark, rich tones are used for feature walls, while fins side lit by energy efficient LED lighting create an atmosphere of understated luxury. Pendant lights in the waiting room are hung at contrasting angles evoking the feeling of a flock of birds in flight against the back wall.

The effect is deliberate and stunning. Admire Dental is unquestionably a superbly designed space. The stone texture is carried through to the reception counter while timber beams frame the perforated screens and bookend the floor to ceiling glazed sections in the waiting area. From the outside, the practice presents with an air of sophistication.

The brand logo, designed by Andrew is a circular play on the letters A and D and it sits proudly backlit on the shopfront welcoming patients to the Admire Dental experience.

From a functional point of view, the practice has 2 generous treatment rooms, steri, lab and opg in addition to the comfortable waiting and reception area. Staff are catered for with a staff room and wc in the rear of the practice. The central corridor is subtly angled from the reception creating the illusion of a larger area than the 96m2 floorplan. This angle gives patients and staff privacy from the shopfront and waiting area.

Medifit’s Sam Koranis says…

”Medifit was delighted to have been chosen to help Andrew and Hau create Admire Dental. It is the second practice we have successfully designed and built for Andrew. We take great pride in repeat business and feel privileged that Andrew has trusted Medifit to again realise his practice vision. The team at Medifit wish Andrew and Hau every success in their new practice.“
