Dental Dr Clement Wong approached Medifit in 2017 with a new tenancy located in a prime position on the busy corner of Mill Point Road and Harper Terrace in South Perth Western Australia.

Nestled in a small spit of land with the Swan River on both sides, Mill Point Road is one of the busiest roads in Perth and a much desired location. Clement’s current practice was located close by in a small, old building on the second level where foot traffic and exposure was limited. The new tenancy was part of a newly built high rise building with mixed commercial and residential apartments, offering great exposure to pedestrian and vehicular traffic on two sides.

The general design philosophy was to create a clean, neat and tidy interior using whites and soft browns whilst avoiding looking too sterile or hospital like. The practice environment needed to appeal to a wide demographic including professionals, school age children and retirees for general dentistry.

With 104m2 of floor space, Clement required 3 Surgeries, central Sterilisation, Lab, OPG, Practice Managers nook, Reception and Waiting areas, Disabled Toilet, and Staff kitchen. The floor plan is designed to welcome patients as soon as they step foot into the clinic with an inviting reception space using modern finishes, furnishings and textures. The angular shape of the front of the tenancy is softened with subtle corner curves on the reception counter and wall panelling.

A main corridor provides a straightforward pathway for staff and patients to be directed to surgery rooms and bathrooms and enables them to easily return to the reception area before departure while the centrally located sterilisation and laboratory space offers easy access from all surgery rooms. The selected colours and finishes of warm brown tones create a calming environment and allow the space to feel open, light and natural. Contrasting colours and finishes help to define the door ways for each room allowing a clear understanding of location within the clinic.

Each surgery is set up in an ergonomic layout with bespoke cabinetry keeping everything at hand, yet also allowing for discrete storage. The colour scheme carries through from the reception area to create a feeling of continuity and consistency. The surgery rooms portray a sense of calmness with a modern twist by using contrasting colours for the patients chair and small details within the cabinetry and lighting fixtures. This careful use of colour provides some visual punch and energy to the rooms.

The Staff area is located at the rear of the practice to allow staff to feel as though they are away from the working area of the practice and can close off this area for privacy or retreat. Staff amenities are supplied with a functional kitchen and bathroom.

The final result is a modern, contemporary practice with a confident, understated style. The perfect practice environment for Dr’s Wong and Law.

Medifit’s Sam Koranis adds “Clement was clear on his vision for the new practice and the Medifit team embraced his vision and bought it to life. We are grateful for the opportunity to help Clement realise his practice dreams and wish him and Ken every success”
