Dr Fabiana Petrykowski qualified as Specialist Orthodontist in 2000 in her home country, Brazil. In 2006, she moved with her family to Australia and settled in Perth. After completing Bachelor of Science in Dentistry and graduating with Honours she was accepted into the competitive Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) program at the prestigious University of Western Australia.
A gifted and motivated orthodontist, Fabiana’s work has been instrumental in clinical research areas including using 3D scanning to evaluate airway morphology in patients with severe obstructive sleep apnoea; and using micro-CT analysis to analyse bone density. After several years working as a consultant orthodontist in practices around the greater Perth area, Fabiana has built a reputation for not only her skill as an orthodontist, but also for her friendly, caring personality. She is passionate about helping to transform lives by giving patients confidence in their smiles and this passion has earnt her praise from colleagues and patients alike. Establishing her own practice was a logical progression. Fabiana began looking for a company to help realise her practice vision.
Fabiana had previously set up a practice in Brazil and had first hand knowledge of the many challenges that come with creating an effective dental practice. With a busy work schedule, it was important to select a company who could handle the entire project efficiently and deliver a practice that reflected her own standards of professionalism.
From her first contact with Medifit, Fabiana knew that she was in good hands.
A tenancy was available in a healthcare precinct development in Manning, a suburb with catchments for some of Perth’s most prestigious primary and secondary schools. With the site chosen, Medifit were able to draw upon their considerable experience to assist Fabiana with the lease negotiations, helping to structure the financial aspects of the fitout in the most advantageous way. From the early stages of discovery, through the design and development phases and into the fitout and construction stages, Medifit impressed the self-described perfectionist with their honesty, experience and practical approach.
Fabiana’s design brief called for a classy but grounded environment taking advantage of natural lighting where possible. She wanted the colours and textures to be rich and warm providing a cultural touchpoint to her life in Brazil. Orthodontic treatment typically requires many visits over a long period of time so it was important that the practice presents a familiar and inviting atmosphere. Fabiana wanted her patients to feel that they were in a safe place where they will be taken care of.
Medifit’s design team took Fabiana’s ideas and transformed them into an elegant, contemporary practice design that looks and functions in perfect harmony with her working style.
Located in a brand new healthcare building, Design Orthodontics is a beautiful three chair practice with the option to expand to a fourth chair in the future. Upon entering the practice, the waiting and reception areas are generous and comfortable. A discrete kids nook complete with tablets and a small library gives waiting patients and siblings a place to relax. A stylish dual basin brushing station is located next to the waiting area.
Stack stone and rusted iron textures are used carefully throughout waiting and reception, giving Design Orthodontics a timeless feel. These textures are echoed in the private consult room adjacent to reception which opens on to the open plan treatment area. The steri and lab is easily accessed at the rear of the practice. A small corridor runs off the treatment area and leads past a practice office and staff room to the OPG machine.
The fitout took place in 8 weeks in late 2020 and Design Orthodontics was open for patients in January 2021.
So how does Fabiana feel about her new practice?
“I am really happy with the process and the end result. My new practice looks fantastic and I’m excited about the prospect of growing the Design Orthodontics patient base.
